What is RSS?
Basically, RSS is a file format that provides the latest updates to have taken place on a website. When files are uploaded to some special programmes (called aggregators), we will be informed about news published on the website without having to visit it.
They are usually identified by small items similar to
or
. These icons contain a link to the RSS file, or in our case, to this page.
How do I subscribe to an RSS?
You will need programmes called aggregators. There are on-line aggregators (like the Google and Yahoo ones we have included above) or aggregators that can be installed in your computer.
Handling an RSS aggregator is like using a list of bookmarks. We gradually add the links to the RSS files that we want, we can organise them into folders and we can display them in different ways when we consult them: the list of headlines in a folder, headline with a summary, or even directly see the web page that the RSS comes from. Everything depends on the aggregator being used.
